What is eFG%?
Effective field goal percentage adjusts raw FG% for the extra point a three is worth: eFG% = (FGM + 0.5 × 3PM) ÷ FGA. A 5-of-10 night from three (eFG% 75) beats 10-of-20 twos (eFG% 50) — raw FG% cannot see that difference, which is why the three-point revolution ran on this stat.
How the calculator works
Enter makes, threes made and attempts. The tool shows eFG% alongside raw FG% so the three-point premium is visible.
Common use cases
- Shot-diet analysis for wings and bigs
- Team offensive profiling (threes and rim attempts raise eFG%)
- Fantasy: identifying efficient volume scorers
Formula & context
League average eFG% is roughly 53–54% in the modern NBA. It ignores free throws — TS% is the version that includes them.
Frequently Asked Questions
eFG% vs TS% — which should I use?
TS% includes free throws and is the fuller efficiency picture; eFG% isolates field shooting specifically.
What is a good eFG%?
Above 55% is efficient for high-volume shooters; the league average sits near 53%.
Why 0.5 multiplier for threes?
A three is worth 1.5 times a two, so each made three adds half a made shot's value to the numerator.
