What is save percentage?
SV% is the share of shots a goalie stops: saves ÷ shots faced. It is the single best quick read of goaltending form — the league average hovers around .900, and the gap between .900 and .920 over 60 starts is worth several standings points.
How the calculator works
Divide saves by shots faced and show the result in goalie notation (.922, not 0.922). Goals against are implied: shots − saves.
Common use cases
- Fantasy goalie streaming decisions
- Separating goalie form from team defense
- Award-race tracking (Vezina talk starts in November)
Formula & context
.920+ is elite, .910 is a solid starter, and .890 is a problem. Empty-net goals against do not count against SV%; shootout decisions do not either.
