Hockey Points Per Game Calculator

Points per game from goals and assists, with an 82-game pace projection.

What is points per game?

Goals plus assists divided by games played — the headline production rate for skaters. A point per game (1.00) across a season is star level; 1.25+ is the scoring title conversation McDavid lives in.

How the calculator works

Total the two inputs, divide by games, and project the pace over a full 82 games so partial seasons compare fairly.

Common use cases

  • Fantasy hockey draft valuation
  • Art Ross trophy tracking
  • Lineup-impact analysis after a trade

Formula & caveats

PPG ignores ice time and role; a 1.00 PPG second-liner and a 1.00 PPG first-unit-PP quarterback are different assets.

What counts as a point?

Exactly what the box score says: one for each goal, one for each primary or secondary assist. Points come at even strength, on the power play and shorthanded alike — which is why shorthanded specialists and first-unit quarterbacks can outscore their 5-on-5 linemates. Empty-net assists count too; shootout deciders do not.

How to use the pace projection

Multiply per-game rates cautiously: rookie linemate changes, injuries and schedule density all bend the curve. The 82-game projection is best read as 'if this role holds', not a promise — especially before the trade deadline reshuffles lines.
