What is NBA win pace?
The same rate projection used in football, applied to basketball's 82-game season: current win percentage extended across remaining games. A 30–15 team (.667) projects to about 55 wins — the number play-by-play broadcasters quote as 'on pace for'.
How the calculator works
Projected wins = wins + (82 − played) × win%. The tool flags whether the projection clears the 43-win play-in/playoff boundary that has defined the modern East.
Common use cases
- Trade-deadline decisions for real and fantasy teams
- Tracking a tank in progress
- Betting-adjacent season total discussions (no odds here — just the math)
Formula & caveats
Constant win rate ignores schedule and injuries; Pythagorean expectation on point differential is the sturdier signal.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many wins make the playoffs?
The play-in has softened the line, but 43+ wins usually secures a berth in both conferences.
Does it work early in the season?
Rate projections stabilize around 20 games; before that, point differential is more reliable.
Why 82 games?
The NBA regular season has been 82 games since 1967–68.
