What is NHL win pace?
Hockey awards 2 points per win and 1 per overtime/shootout loss, so standings points — not wins — decide the playoffs. This tool projects the full points total by extending the current points-per-game rate across remaining games.
How the calculator works
Projected points = (projected wins × 2) + OTLs, where projected wins extend the current win rate over the games remaining. The tool flags the 95-point playoff line that most seasons demand.
Common use cases
- Wildcard race tracking from December on
- Fantasy: knowing when eliminated teams trade veterans
- Tanking math, sadly
Formula & caveats
OTL pace is hard to predict — shootout luck regresses. The playoff line moves by a few points year to year.
